Creatives for Climate Announces High-Profile Leadership

Amsterdam, Netherlands—Global NGO Creatives for Climate announces a Global Executive Board and Advisory to expand the development of its programme to facilitate climate action within the communications industry.

Creatives for Climate’s rapidly growing community of 40,000 includes agencies and marketers across disciplines ranging from communications to advertising to design, who are dedicated to using their skill sets to drive sustainable transformation.

Founded by CEO Lucy von Sturmer following a Creatives for Climate Summit in 2019, von Sturmer launched an online community hub and collaboration platform which expanded globally. The group formalised as an NGO in 2022 and continues to offer pathways for the creative industries to shift away from polluting work to focus on accelerating climate solutions.

The new executive board and advisory team comprises some of the most accomplished leaders across disciplines at creative and sustainability organisations worldwide. They include GreenBiz 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leader Sandra Gonza, CEO of Global Strategic Communications Council Tom Brookes, and Dr. Victoria Hurth, independent pracademic and advisor to Cambridge University Sustainability Leadership Programme, among others.

Additionally, Creatives for Climate’s first impact report, ‘A Roadmap for Creative Climate Action,’ summarises the NGO’s impact to date, explores its three critical action areas—movement building, industry alliance, and climate solutions—and the strategic approach to each, and showcases testimonials and case studies with the likes of Planet Tracker, Oxfam, and Greenpeace.

"To implement climate solutions throughout the work of the creative and communications industries, we've recognised the need to create a diverse and inclusive offering structured to aid the sector in facilitating change. Our new board and advisory are filled with industry leaders who will help organisations, campaigners, and others shape uniquely powerful collective campaigns and further develop the Creatives for Climate mission of movement building. With regional chapters now established globally, we're ensuring our work is informed and bolstered by local communities while knowledge-sharing is exchanged with our senior leadership.” Lucy von Sturmer, CEO and Founder, Creatives for Climate

“It is an exciting time to be joining Creatives for Climate as Chair in its current phase of growth. Such a strong organic community has been formed, and now is the time to bring greater structure and clarity to take our offering to the next level.” Duncan Money, Board Chair, Creatives for Climate

“Creatives shape how the world understands the climate crisis, so it’s imperative that they themselves understand the issue and the various ways that extractive industry has tried to shape narratives on it. Creatives for Climate is a one-stop shop for that learning, from workshops and training to a vibrant and supportive community.” Amy Westervelt, Executive Director, Drilled

“Creativity is perhaps one of the greatest untapped resources in the fight against climate change. Creatives for Climate is not only trying to help the communications industry do less bad, but they’re equipping a community of over 40,000 creative people with knowledge, skills and a roadmap for creative climate action. And that gives me hope.” Tom Tapper, CEO and Co-founder, Nice and Serious

“Climate change is one of at least a dozen incredibly urgent challenges we must tackle at speed. But climate change is not a natural crisis but a human one. Creatives shape the human spirit - through their talents, they can continue to lock us into harm or unleash our imagination to remake our routes to wellbeing, while regenerating the world that sustains us.” Dr Victoria Hurth, Independent Pracademic and Sustainable Marketing expert

A free industry course available to Creatives for Climate’s Supporting Members, ‘Communicating Climate Change’, has also been launched to lay the foundation to help kickstart industry executives' journey towards impact through their work. Supporting Members can learn more about the course here.
